LEED Durable buildings, or green buildings
Buildings contribute to 30% of the energy consumption and to 27% of the production of greenhouse gases in Canada.* In order to help Canada attain the Kyoto protocol targets, Construction Vergo decided to do its part by becoming a specialist in durable buildings, or green buildings. The corporation is therefore able to design durable buildings meeting the LEED standards, which are the strictest in the industry regarding environmental construction.
LEED standards
The concept of durable building consists in designing a building with the latest technology, enabling it to respect at best the environment and the ecology during construction. The best-known program in the ecological construction sector is the LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) made by the US Green Building Council. To receive the LEED certification, durable buildings must respect various efficiency standards of energy efficiency, water consumption efficiency, heating efficiency, use of materials from a local source and recycling of surplus. Construction Vergo’s most important achievement in this sector is certainly Tohu, la Cité des arts du cirque, located on Jarry Street, in the Saint-Michel area of Montreal, in partnership with Cirque du Soleil. Tohu has obtained among others, the LEED Gold certification, in addition to being awarded several other prizes in Canada:
